On the Road with Road Show

IMG_0076Today, I drove from the DC area to Southern New Jersey to pick up a machine I had been looking for since 2006… “Road Show.”

I’m a big fan of pinball machines designed by Pat Lawlor. He designed what is arguably the best pinball machine of the modern age… Twilight Zone. It’s nearly impossible to find one of those anywhere for less than $3000 used. New, it sold for $2495 back in 1993.

I had seen lots of these machines online, but they were always immensely overpriced and never quite close enough for me to want to make the drive.

When I picked this one up, I figured out why I got it for such a steal. It needs some work. Seriously, it needs LOTS of work. As you can see from just looking at the back of the cabinet in this photo, it has been to hell and back, and it certainly shows external wear.

I’ll be evaluating the machine over the next several days and ordering a bunch of parts for it to get it looking like a diamond as opposed to a cubic zirconia.

Stay tuned…
